In the Beginning, There is the End

Have you ever had this vague sense of impending doom? That persistent queasy feeling in your stomach that the world, or at least the human race, was about to end in some horrible fashion? Welcome to my world. I'm a "Worst Case Scenario" guy. In fact, it's kind of my job. I got this way by growing up in the Cold War era, when everyone expected the world to end in a nuclear fireball at any given moment, and being raised by a father who could see the dark cloud to any silver lining. Anyway, I am uniquely qualified to point out to you all the ways in which life as you know it may end, and this is where I'm going to do it. We face threats every day, some you know about, some you don't, and to be honest, it's kind of a miracle that we're still here. Rather than live with this vague, uneasy feeling of despair, I'm going to help you to crystallize this into a very directed and specific feeling of panic about a particular threat or threats. You're welcome.

Now maybe you're one of those "Optimists", those goofy do-gooders who believe that the human race might actually live to see another decade or two. I suppose you're going to want to try to actually survive whatever apocalypse appears to be coming over the horizon. I guess for you misguided souls, I can throw in a few threat-specific tips to help get you through, but in the end, it won't help--we're all going to die. For the rest of us, just sit back, grab your favorite beverage, make sure the important people in your life know that you love them and enjoy the show, because I'm willing to bet my readers and I will see it coming before anyone else does.
